Filing week ends in Clark County with 523 candidates vying for 383 offices

Friday’s final day of filing week saw a handful of candidates joining the 2022 election season and one candidate withdraw.

As of 5 p.m., 523 candidates filed for 383 offices. The number of candidates filing fell far short of the more than 730 offices, which includes Democratic and Republican precinct committee officers, on the August primary and November general elections ballots.

Democrat Brent Hennrich, who filed for the 3rd Congressional District seat held by U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler withdrew from the race late Friday afternoon. Hennrich was one of three Democrats running for the office.

Each of Clark County’s three council seats up for election drew one new candidate.

Former Vancouver City Council candidate Glen Yung filed for the District 1 council seat. Yung ran for city council in 2021. Councilor Temple Lentz, who currently holds the District 1 seat, announced last month she won’t seek reelection.

Kim Hamlik, of Vancouver, filed Friday for the District 2 council position. District 2 Councilor Julie Olson also announced last month she won’t be running again.

North county resident Rick Torres also filed Friday. Torres is running for the District 5 council seat.

Vancouver resident Brett Simpson will challenge longtime County Auditor Greg Kimsey for his office. The auditor’s position is the only county office, aside from sheriff and county council, to draw a challenger.
